Teaching Assistant (Grade 3)

Salary range FTE £19,264 – £22,129 (Actual Salary £13,921 – £15,991)

The post is for 31.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year and are permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:45am – 3:15pm

  • plus 1 hour for mandatory staff training each week (Monday 3:15pm – 4:15pm)
  • half hour each week for class team meeting (Thursday 3:15pm – 3:45pm)

We are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to work in our provisions for pupils with more challenging behaviours.

We have an approach based upon SCERTS that uses a therapeutic approach to teaching children to self-regulate themselves.  Pupils can display significant levels of challenging behaviour and we use a very intensive support programme to develop alternative communication strategies to reduce those behaviours that restrict their social interaction.  As part of a team, you will need to be enthusiastic, creative as well as resilient with a significant sense of fun.  Play is an important part of the therapeutic approach, the post will based around the nurture pathway element of our curriculum.

Midday Supervisor

Grade 2 £18,333 – £19,264 pro rata (actual salary: £9.50 p/h)

15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks per year (3 hours per day between the hours of 10:00am – 2:00pm. The hours to be determined to suit the needs of the class, for example, it may be that the ​successful candidate starts at 10:00 or 11:00 and finishes at either 13:00 or 14:00) based at Mayfield Road.

Term-time only (plus 5 PD Days for training, please check the term dates to see when PD Days will fall). The successful candidate should be flexible and able to work across the school with all ages.

The post involves supervising and supporting children in the dining hall and engaging and playing with children outdoors at lunchtime, ensuring a safe, caring, and playful environment. The MDSA posts at Riverwalk are very similar to the role and duties of Teaching Assistants and it is often necessary to recruit MDSA’s following career progression to the roles of Teaching Assistants.

Riverwalk is a 3-19 school for pupils with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Riverwalk School is part of the Believe Engage Succeed Academy Trust (BEST) working in a purpose-built school building with a new engaging curriculum. We are seeking to appoint dynamic and creative Teaching Assistants who are:

  • Passionate about ensuring the highest quality learning for children with Complex Needs and Severe Learning Difficulties.
  • Willing to take on board the extensive training that is on offer which forms part of a continuing professional development schedule.
  • Good role models for the students and fellow colleagues

What the role entails:

  • As part of a class-based team you will need to be energetic, enthusiastic and creative as well as resilient with a significant sense of fun. Play is an important part of the therapeutic approach. Your role is to facilitate access to learning for SEND pupils across the school. You will certainly get your steps in as our site is quite expansive!
  • You will support teaching and learning, working with small groups and one-to-one as required. This is a challenging role, but incredibly rewarding as part of a team which works together to make a real positive difference to the lives of our children with SEND.

To progress within the school staffing structure staff will need to achieve the minimum qualification requirements, including Level 2 in English and Maths.

Whilst we are predominantly looking for full time staff, applications at this grade would also be welcomed from candidates who could be employed on a casual basis as supply staff.

10 hours per week, 44 weeks per year (term time plus a small number of hours in the school holidays)

Monday – Friday, 3.30pm – 6pm (or there can be some flexibility to do the hours in the morning)
