Year 7 Catch Up Funding

To support the progress of pupils at year 7 make progress in literacy and numeracy we receive additional funding of £3000 for the academic year 2017– 2018.
Our main focus was upon the development of symbol communication and the shape and space aspect of numeracy.
The funding was allocated to meet the costs of developing symbols and Choice Folders, including additional laminators. As well as the continued development of our reading scheme books, supporting the implementation of Lexia for the more able readers, and sensory stories to encourage pupils in the engagement in sharing stories.
Reading Scheme was allocated £500 and Story Sacks £300 and £200 for sensory resources within the classrooms.
For Maths we increased our resources in practical learning equipment and motivational resources to engage pupils in exploring shape space and size.
Maths Equipment was allocated £1000.

For the academic year 2018 -2019 we are focusing upon the development of phonics including the training of staff in the Jolly Phonics Scheme. We intend to develop a school based phonics record based upon the specialised curriculum at Riverwalk. For numeracy we will be developing the use of skills in discovery and problem solving though specialist resources. Having moved into a new building staff can now make purchases based upon a greatly improved access to learning spaces.
