Riverwalk Career’s Development Plan

Riverwalk Careers Development Mission Statement

Our career development plan for SEN students aged 11-19 (Year 7-14) has been developed to contain a multi-faceted approach that caters to the unique needs and abilities of each student. Our development process starts with a thorough assessment of the student's interests, strengths, and aspirations. From this we are then able to incorporate the Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance into our plan.

The eight areas are as follows:

  1. A stable career programme
  2. Learning from labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

Finally, continuous support and adaptation of the career guidance program will be designed to ensure that it remains relevant and effective for the student's journey and development.

Alongside this, we will also be looking to incorporate The Talentino scheme of work. This is a comprehensive program designed to support young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in their career development. This helps to offer a structured curriculum that covers:

  1. Personal and Social Development
  2. Employability Enterprise Skills

This scheme is tailored to help students overcome diverse barriers and prepare for their future development, whilst aligning with the Gatsby Benchmarks and the Career Development Institute's Framework of Skills. Resources provided include detailed lesson plans, a Future Skills Competency Framework, and innovative tools like the CICO® Personal Profiling Tool, which assists students from Year 8 onwards in identifying their core interests.
